How Elon Musk and Zuckerberg Almost Teamed Up to Buy OpenAI
So Elon Musk actually asked Zuckerberg to help him buy OpenAI… the chats L3aked?
A lot of people are just finding out that Elon Musk actually tried to buy OpenAI in 2025.
Yes, the same OpenAI behind ChatGPT.
And what made the story even crazier was this:
Elon reportedly reached out to Mark Zuckerberg to see if he’d join him in making the move. Newly unsealed court records say Musk texted Zuckerberg asking if he was open to bidding on OpenAI’s intellectual property with him and others. Zuckerberg reportedly replied that he was open to discussing it live, though Meta ultimately did not join the bid.
That alone is enough to make people pause.
Because for years, Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg have looked more like rivals than partners.
These are two of the biggest tech names in the world.
They’ve clashed publicly, taken shots at each other, and at one point even had the internet talking about a possible boxing cage fight 🤣 (What happened to this fight sef?)
So for Elon to quietly reach out and say, in essence, “Do you want to do this with me?” is not small.
That means behind all the public drama, there was a very real attempt to make one of the boldest power moves in tech.
The deal was for nearly $97.4 billion offer for OpenAI.
But OpenAI rejected the offer because its leadership and board made it clear they were not for sale, and they viewed Musk’s move as part of a wider battle over control, not a rescue mission.
In the end, the offer failed, Zuckerberg didn’t join, and OpenAI stayed where it was, but the whole thing exposed just how serious the power struggle around AI has become.
Now people on X are saying Elon won because Sora, the video wing of OpenAi is shutting down.
See, if two giants are at loggerheads online, they may be having secrete discussions that people online may not be aware of.
