The Power of Being "Deaf" to Criticism in the Online Space
I just tested the intelligence of my followers and I am so happy that only a few are less intelligent. Of course, I will not say otherwise. Not that they are not intelligent, but I think we still have a lot of work to do to help them grow.
If you have been active on my wall since yesterday and you have not learned something, then you are not really smart.
I want you to go to the first post I made praising VDM, then go to the second post I made criticizing VDM, and also check the last post I made supporting Obi Cubana and Chief Priest’s decisions. You will learn something serious and you will also understand how humans and this world work.
People will talk whether you are doing the right or the wrong thing. If you fail to learn this, you will live the rest of your life in a cage. A cage of trying to fit into a place where you will never truly belong. A cage of trying to please everyone. Not only that, you will also live in fear. Fear of not being able to meet everyone’s expectations and fear of offending people whom you may still never please.
In fact, you will keep hiding.
When I made a post early last month about VDM, I got up to 1k plus comments attacking me just because I pointed out the areas where VDM’s fans were not getting it right. Some of his fans even went as far as reporting my page and the post, which was neutral and somehow supportive of him.
Then yesterday I made another post praising the same VDM, and another group of people almost bit off my head. They called me all sorts of names. Some even messaged me, pouring out their anger with so many abusive words and insults. I ignored them and told some of them that they were right.
Then this morning I made another post criticizing the same VDM that I was attacked yesterday for praising. My people, go to the comment section. If not because my page sometimes filters out negative and abusive comments, you would feel sorry for me.
Even those I believed were intelligent enough to understand what I was doing were typing very long comments just to tell me how disappointed they were in me and how senseless I am.
I was seriously bullied and, as usual, I responded to everyone by telling them that they were right.
If I wake up tomorrow and make another post criticizing Cubana and Chief Priest, you will still see another set of people attacking me.
Many unfollowed me for praising VDM.
Many unfollowed me for criticizing VDM.
If you are wise enough, you will see that I have used this to teach you how to succeed faster, especially in this online space.
You who are always careful not to provoke people with your content, if you are a content creator, you are not going anywhere.
If people’s opinions still control you, my dear, you are still far from achieving anything significant.
Grow to the point where you live beyond people’s emotions and opinions. You do not only need to be deaf, you also need to appear so unbothered that people will eventually get tired of attacking and criticizing you.
Now listen. I am not one of those who hate or love people they have never met.
I do not have any business with VDM. Whether he is good or bad is not my concern. I am focused on building myself, and loving or hating someone somewhere is a big distraction to my growth.
I am not a fan of anyone.
I am neither a fan of Davido nor Wizkid. In fact, you will never see their songs on any of my phones. I do not even know the title of any of their songs.
I am not a fan of VDM. I simply know him as a random person. I like what he does right and dislike what he does wrong, just as I do with every other person.
I am Wisdom Buchi, and I am living my life building ME.
I do not have time to be anyone’s fan.
If I go out tomorrow and see VDM, Davido, Wizkid, or anyone else, believe me, I will not look at them twice. I have done this several times. Not out of pride or arrogance, I just do not have time to be star struck. If an opportunity for partnership comes, I will be happy to do business with them as a partner, not as a fan.
Being a fan can limit you.
But becoming valuable to those at the top can make you one of them, and that is my target.
Learn.
